I'm new to the whole overclocking business and I would like to learn how to overclock my processor (Intel Core 2 Duo). I know you have to enter bios but what do you do once you're there. confused

Any Help would be much obliged ;)

Edit: I'm taking a look at ram ratio, does lowering it increase performance??

Don't rush it, if you screw up too much, you'll have to fork out a lot to fix it all.

It depends on the mainboard you're using, which Core 2 Duo you're using and what RAM you're using.
Basically for C2D cpu's it's best to always have your ram run 1:1 with your fsb.
Fore example, I've got an Asus P5B Deluxe, E6600 (Rev. B2) and GeIL PC6400 DDR2 (which is rated to run 4-4-4-12 @ 800Mhz).
Always be careful when overclocking and be aware of the fact that it's not the wisest thing to do.
I'm overclocking it with a ThermalRight XP120 heatsink combined with a 120mm Papst fan on it. Also in my case (Cooler Master Stacker STC-T01) are a 120mm intake fan (front), 120mm exhaust fan (rear), 80mm intake fan (top) and with those fans the E6600 @ 3Ghz runs 32*C idle and 52*C full load.
I've got 3 more 120mm Papst fans lying around which I'll install (1 front intake, 1 side intake & 1 rear exhaust) and hopefully the temps will drop.

The new E4300 can be o/c'd from 1.8 to 3.3Ghz with a Scythe Infinite Heatsink/fan.

Thanks for all of your input. Much appreciated

I do have another question, but this involves overclocking an Evga-Nvidia 8800 GTX via Ntune. How do I save and load my profile so that everytime I start the system I wont have to adjust GPU clock speed?

isnt ntune for your processor...? nvidia cards need coolbits to unlock overclocking options in the control panel. all those settings should load automatically

    use nvtray
    http://nvtweak.laptopvideo2go.com/

it contains nvtweak (the new version of coolbits)

    once installed
double click on the icon in the system tray
    select 'enable all'
then right click on the icon in the system tray
    select 'nvidia control panel'
and you will find options that were not there before
    including overclocking

you can use 'find optimal' or manually adjust the settings
and they will stay where you set them

Thanks Shane. But for some reason overclocking doesn't appear on my nvidia control panal :-/, I've downloaded everything, is there a certain option I need to enable?
And yes, I've enabled all :p

I can however adjust my clocks speed via the Nvidia Display panal, but I don't have the overclocking option on my Nvidia COntrol Panal

    Sorry

All i did was what I mentioned in my previous post

    The utility 'vtuner'
that came with my card 'gigabyte 7600s'
couldnt do it, even though that is what it is there for

    NVTray 1048 ( ~ 472kB, includes NVTweak v2.1.4 )
    worked great

Nvidia control panel - 3d options - performance - change overclocking configuration

Just tried downloading the NVtray 1048 version, still I don't get the change overclocking configuration in my Nvidia Control Panel's performance tab. Any ideas confused. Currently I'm able to overclock my card with the "change clock frequency" in the Nvidia Display menu.

My Video card is an E-Nvidia 8800 GTX just by the way.

    have you got this installed
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package ?

my 7600gs uses the nvidia forceware 93.71

the 8800 GTX is meant to use 97.72

only things i can think of

Yep, I downloaded it when I downloaded NVtray.

But it doesn't really matter, Like I said in my previous posts, I'm using Nvidia Display to overclock my card :p

To be honest I think the whole NTune thing is crap. Personally I use AtiTool (which works with both NVidia and AMD/ATi cards) and that's much easier.
Not too mention that you can stresstest your oc to search for the best overclock.
I've got the XFX GF8800GTX and I must admit that overclocking the CPU has given me way more perfomanceboost than overclocking the videocard has.
My advice to you would thus be to focus on your cpu as that's the limiting factor in most cases.
