Core2Quad

I was looking into Core2Quad CPU's for possible future upgrades, and found these two similary priced chips on Newegg:

• Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 1066MHz FSB Quad-Core Processor - Retail

• Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W 1333 MHz FSB Quad-Core Processor - Retail

They're both going for around $189. Can someone tell me what the true differences are and which is better for the same price (I looked it up in Wiki, but I'm too much of a novice to figure it out)? Thank you.

It is difficult to say. The first processor seems to have double the cache. The second one seems to be faster, both from the name "Q8200" and the 1333Mhz FSB. I am not too familiar with Intel processors, I would go with the faster one. However, you should check your motherboard to make sure it can handle a 1333 FSB.

 

Yes, that what's confusing me too. Going strictly by the name, Q8200 should be the better processor, but the Q6600 has a slightly higher clock speed & double the cache. Then again, the Q8200 has a faster FSB. I suppose if the knowledgeable members here at Majorgeeks.com don't have an answer to this, I may never knowconfused
