Corrupot files in Vista

Hi. The computer is experiencing ever more frequent and irritating crashes. Host process terminated, Windows explorer problem and restart, flickering screen when deleting files, Firefox crashing/locking, and so on and on and on. Found a list of errors in the Computer Management error log - 15776 events!!!!! nearly all recent. I ran the System File Checker which said it fixed some corrupt files but couldn't fix others. Left a massive CBS.log file.

System is running Vista home version, fully updated. Intel Core2 CPU. 4GB RAM.

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated

 

Frequent crashing is often heat, memory or malware related.

Can you export the System log from Management, please? Save it as the default *.etl filetype, zip and attach the zip to your next post, I'll try to decipher some of those errors.

 

Hi. I have saved as *.evtx format. It did not offer the format you requested. If this is not usable it offers xml, csv and txt. Many thanks for your help.

 

Sure, the default format's fine, the other must be pre-Vista

I've taken a quick look and nothing jumps out as being the obvious cause, except that you don't appear to have any recent entries logged, can you check and correct the date and time, please? This might be a factor.

Once that's done, reboot and use the PC for a while then return to management and filter the log to the most recent entries before exporting and zipping/attaching it.
