    Hi Guys/Girls,

I'm at the end of the tether with this one. A few weeks ago i turned my itunes on and got this message:-
The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\MYNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\itunes\iTunesPrefs.xml is corrupt and unrreadable. Please rub Chkdsk utility.

    Chkdsk did nothing.

I tried unlocker, Moveonboot and forcedel and again nothing.

Any advice or help might just save my sanity

Tried running iTunes from the actual iTunes.exe file in C:/Program Files instead of the shortcut in Start / Programs, or the desktop shortcut ? Also read a post that said to delete the file and it will be recreated, but I don't know about that. Avenger.exe is good at removing stubborn files if that is your goal. Possibly run iTunes from another account on the same computer or copy the file from one account to the other? I don't even run Quicktime on the PC, Apple software gives me fits. Maybe someday Foola will get out of BETA.

What version of iTunes are you using. I have researched a bit on this error you are having and it has been fixed with an update to a newer version of iTunes.

iTunes runs, but i have to load the library onto it each time. I've read in quite a few places that this is a problem with the pref file. Tried deleting it but it's more stubborn than a mother in law. I renamed the folder and reinstalled iTunes so that it would install onto another folder-still no joy.

iTunes 8.2.1 I've installed this about six times now and still no joy. I tired to restore my comp beyond the date i remember the problems starting. So far of the four different points i have tried the comp is saying the restore has failed.

Is this a bigger issue than iTunes?

you said you renamed the folder but did you rename the containing folder and delete it. and if that doesn't work try moving it then deleting the containing folder.

I renamed the folder containing this file and tried deleting it-no joy.

I tried moving the folder but the same problem. iTunes runs and the error message has gone but the library has to be loaded on again
