corrupt registy please please help

All my work was on it, and I really need it, the worst part was that I was just about to backup!!

I start up, Vista says it's loading files, and then I can choose normal start or startup repair. Whatever I choose, after a long wait i come to a blue screen. With system repair options. I can also choose a variety of other options, including system restore - which tells me it can't work because the computer is offline.

I choose startup repair, and it cannot fix anything. I look at the log? It tells me this:

Everything is fine, apart from the registry is corrupt.
It tried registry roll back and it failed. Code 8x3e7
It also says load key failed error 999 STHIVEHO

I am on vista home pro, 2gb ram, er 2mz processer AMD, hp pavillion.

Before this happened, I ended Desktop Window Manager DWM, iin the processes, I know it was a stupid thing to do but my laptop was really slow, and I thought it was to do with aero, so at worst it should just stop all the pretty effects? I blame it on having the flu.

But for about 5 minutes after I ended that it was fine!

Also for half an hour before my laptop was really really slow, more so than usual.

I downloaded 3 programs. 2 FLV players and one FLV converter. I can find the names if you need.

I also torrented a lot, but hadn't opened any of that yet.

Is there anything else I should tell you that would help?

I cannot system restore because it said I didn't create any. I thought it automaticly did.

Oh also last night I used hp self check/self test from bios and it told me I needed to order a new hard drive.
