Corrupted Internet Explorer for Win XP Home

I need help please, my sister can not open her internet explorer. she's using mozilla instead. she told me that there were corrupted files. we don't know on how to restore internet explorer so she can download updates from microsoft. btw, she's having problem with her sound card as well. we're trying to have a voice chat and she doesn't seem to produce a sound. but she can hear me well. she took it to a computer shop and been told that some files we're corrupted as well..... blahhh.... blahhh.. can anyone please help us.. thanks..

The easiest way to repair Internet Explorer is to use System File Checker.

Start, run and type in sfc /scannow then OK. (Note there is a space after sfc )

You will need your Windows CD.

 

what if there are no windows cd??

 

i think you can actually download internet explorer off the net. just search google for the download and see what happens..

I can tell you have never actually tried this on XP

 

If Insomniac's solution doesn't work, then try IE in Safe Mode. If it still doesn't open, then go to regedit, and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{4b218e3e-bc98-4770-93d3-2731b9329278}

Back this key up, then modify the IsInstalled value on the right to zero.

Reboot. This will allow you to install a new copy of IE, because XP will not think its installed. This assumes you have another browser to get IE with, which I read you did.
