Corrupted Jpegs From Document Scan

I'd appreciate some advice on this.

I scanned a ten-page document using the 'import' command in Windows 6 and a Canon 350 scanner/printer, and saved it as ten JPEGS. Then I accidentally formatted the USB drive they were on. I recovered the file using Recuva, but none of the JPEGs will open.

I found a technique on the Web whereby you use a hex editor - you find a JPEG that is OK, then copy its hex header and use it to replace the header on the 'bad' JPEG (I confess it was all gobbledegook to me when I was following the instructions on how to do this). Unfortunately, this didn't work. I suspect this is because all the JPEGs I have from scanned documents are of slightly different sizes, because I always crop some of the white space from around the text, and the cropping I do is bound to be different every time, as I just gauge it by eye.

The hex document shows lots of symbols, rather than just a string of zeroes, so all the information might well still be there.

Any suggestions on how I might recover these JPEGs? Thanks.

That you are going to have to explain.

Are you wondering why I have such an old edition of PS? I find it does all I want it to.

Yeah, never heard of Win 6 either.

Did you make backup's? If not, may have to rescan. Not that you asked, but always make backup's.

OP here. Sorry, I've confused people here - I typed 'Windows 6' when I meant 'Photoshop 6'. I've no idea why I typed that.

So, I used the 'import' command on Photoshop 6 to scan this document and save it as 10 JPEG files, then accidentally formatted the USB stick they were on - that's what I meant to say.

If I could just re-scan the document, that would be fine, but what I forgot to say was that I've lost the document, and I didn't back up the JPEGs. This means those corrupted JPEGS are all I have of this document now - that's why I've been trying so hard to recover them.

Sorry for the confusion - I'll be more careful about writing posts in future.

Corrupted files with no backup's... No guarantees, but google up "how to repair jpeg file that won't open" (or something to that effect). There are any number of ways, but nothing guaranteed, of course. I strongly recommend that you make duplicate sets of your corrupted jpeg files - and use only the 'working sets' for experimentation - until you (hopefully) find a solution. Best of luck!
