Corrupted motherboard

I have an HP computer with an AMD anthon II dual core processor. It came with Vista home loaded on it. Vista died about six months ago. Since I have another computer I wasn't in a rush to fix it but my son tried to load windows XP from my other computers recovery disk. Now I am told that the motherboard is "corrupted." I want to fix it. I have purchased windows 7 on a disk and a new hardrive to put it on.....My dilemma is I can't get anything to work on the computer, I am told I need to buy a new motherboard. Any advice as to how to get windows 7 loaded and working would be greatly appreciated.
BTW I have tried loading from the disk and when the new windows 7 logo apprears the screen go blank.

 

Two questions:

1) What kind of Windows XP disk did you use? Did you use a disk intended for another computer or did you use an OEM (Retail) disk. An easy way to tell is that if it mentions a manufacturer, it is probably not OEM.

2) What did the error look like when the computer said the "motherboard is 'corrupted' and when did you get it. I have never seen an error message say that before.

 

me neither but when i come across an unusual error message i suspect that its malware do a virus scan just in case

 

Can you give us some details about the motherboard?

If you open the case it should have the model and make on the board itself usually between the PCI slots.

Other than that if you have a manual for it look up jumpers and use them to reset the board or take out the battery from the board for about 30 min then replace and try to boot the PC.

Lastly if all else fails, with you good PC download a Linux boot cd and try to boot from that.
