Corrupted Photoshop Files?

    I saved a .psd files using photoshop elements 2 yesterday only to find my computer telling me it was incompatible with the current version. I tried opening it with a few other programs, but no good. Does anyone have any idea how this happened, or whether it's salvageable? I spent 5 hours on it, so it kind of pissed me off. Thanks in advance for the help!
