Could I Get Away With Buying Off Brand Ddr3 Desktop Memory?

I've seen some ddr3 non-ecc memory for sale on ebay, but it's brands I've never heard of and some that have no brand name on it at all. Which makes me wary. So how much of a risk is it, or is all memory made from the same components?

I'd first go to Crucial and have it check for what is needed. Then buy only quality Ram.

I sure prefer to stick with the name brands - if nothing else than because they tend to stand behind their products. While it is difficult to find RAM that is not warrantied for life, until Man can create perfection 100% of the time, there will be some that fails.
Then I say, follow your instincts and go for name brands.

Don't skimp on RAM or a power supply. (Those two things are the "brains" and the "energy" of the computer). You start buying cheap and you end up with strange problems that you can't figure out the cause. It will be frustrating and you'll end up replacing the units. It will have cost you both time and money.

Okay. Here are some of the unknown brands I've come across: Ramacel, Dolgix, Veteke, Wintek, and Patriot. Has anyone familiar with any of these? Also, would a ddr3 1600MHz work in a motherboard that only supports ddr3 1333MHz even if it's just at the lower speed of 1333MHz?

I just checked. I bought a stick of Wintek laptop RAM for a friend's hand -me -down PC. However, for my own stuff, I've stuck with name brands.

Usually, you can. The cheaper RAM options you are considering may increase the odds of issues.

Wintek is not well known, but it is not an unknown brand. Patriot, on the other hand, is quite well known. I would not hesitate to buy Patriot RAM if the price was right.

I have a Patriot USB stick but no RAM. My RAM is Crucial, Kingston and G-skill. I thought in the past I bought PNY too but I can't find a sleeve with that label.

I just picked up some used Samsung DDR3 1333 GHz. 8gb (4gb X 2) ram. I've been using memtest -86 v3.5 for a few hours yesterday with no errors. I'm going to run memtest all day today also. So, far it seems like I've lucked out. I've only purchased used ram once before (quit awhile ago) and got burned on it.
