    Hi,

I have Windows XP x64, SATA.

Everytime I try to uninstall a program, I receive the error message that says "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file." This started just a few days ago. The only programs that I've recently added were for video files, such as VirtualDubMod, Avisynth, Divx, etc, and some updated programs, such as Advanced WindowsCare 3. When I found that some files wouldn't work because they're not x64 compatible, I couldn't uninstall them. When I tried to uninstall Advanced WindowsCare Standard, I couldn't uninstall it.

I tried installing the programs again, in case something wasn't installed during installation but that didn't work.

Is there a fix for this? Can I just create an INSTALL.LOG file or download one?

    Hi Kestrel,

I opened the folder but there isn't a file named Uninstall.log. I tried using the uninstall file in the folder but received another message that unins000.msg was missing. I turned on extensions. My unins000 doesn't have an extension.

Thanks for the link. It was a good shot.

After a few hours of trying to uninstall the programs, I deleted their folders. When I went into Add/Remove Programs, I clicked on the programs that no longer had a folder. It asked me if I wanted to remove the program since the folder is not in my pc and I click Yes. Voila! The problem is solved.

But I don't understand why the new programs aren't creating Uninstall.log files. All of the new programs that I installed over the past few days haven't had them. Something changed the way programs are installed but I don't know what.

Is there one Uninstall.log for my entire pc or does each program have one? I looked through some of my programs, using Show Hidden Files and Folders and Show Protected Files and Folders, that I've had for a while and none of them have an Uninstall.log file.

I installed about 15 programs, most of them I didn't want to remove and some removed with no problems. These I couldn't delete:

Advanced Care 2 (I updated to a newer version)
    VX2 Cleaner (an add-in for Ad-Aware)
    Driver Detective (trial version)
Spyware Doctor (trial version and incompatible)
QuickTime 7.4 (I updated to a newer version)

The programs that I mentioned in my earlier post were examples of video programs that I installed. Those worked fine.

Just about all of my programs have an uninstall file and they all used to work fine. I also uninstall some programs using Add/Remove Programs. No programs have an uninstall.log file.

I'm wondering if one of the cleaning programs weren't x64 compatible and removed files that aren't needed for an x32 pc.
