Could nvidia Graphics Card cause these problems?

    Hallo

    I have an HP Pavillion dv2525ei laptop with a Nvidia Geforce 8400 M GS. I reformatted my hard drive and have a fresh installation of vista home premium V2. Each time I install the Nvidia graphics card, my laptop works for a short time then closes down to prevent damage to my computer. I disabled and deleted the driver and have been using standard VGA. I am getting a pixeled and striated screen to a point I can barely read it. If I reboot I get a blue screen, but by the sounds I hear, vista starts up. I have to wait 10 - 20 mins before I can reboot and get anything on the screen. I used the vista disc to do a repair and it states it cannot automatically fix the problem.     Could this be the graphics card it is referring to? When I ran the repair I had my LAN, USB mouse and printer plugged in. The battery was out and the mains plugged in.

    Laptops can be tough because your usually limited as to what you can fix. So much hardware is onboard that a hardware problem means calling the manufacturer, taking it to a shop or replacing it. Since your on a clean install, we only have a few things we can check into.

    You said you deleted the driver, did you install the newest driver on your laptop?

    BIOS update won't help you, there are no known issues close to this.

    My last idea, sadly, would be to get a can of compressed air if you see any dirt around your fans. Dust and animal hair can slow down your fans and\or block the flow and cause computers to heat up and crash. This is especially true with laptops because their is so little space in the laptop case and the fans are so small that it is important to make sure what air flow they have is unrestricted.

    Thanks for your reply. The link you sent is the one I used to download all the HP software for my model, so the driver was up to date. My vents appear clean, but I will see if compressed air is available in tins here. (Computer technicians here usually take the computer to the nearest garage and use the tyre pressure hose to blow out the dirt!)

    Actually, your drivers are up to date only up to date until HP stops supporting the model, usually 1-2 years :( Most computer manufacturers offer drivers for that year or two, usually getting them individually is better, lets get you a couple that might help.

    Latest Nvidia driver was last month, HP is giving you a 2 year old video driver:

    Worth a try.

    Tire pressure hose seems like too much pressure to me...

    Use CCleaner too to clean your machine fom junk files, check for startup items you dont need and defrag your drive if not done recently.

    Another thing you might try: most laptops come with a connector for enabling a discrete monitor - if you've got a spare monitor handy, hook it up and see if you can move the symptoms to the monitor (which would indicate a graphics card problem) - if the monitor looks good, however, this might indicate a laptop display problem...

    Thanks to you both for the advice and links. I tried attaching an old monitor but none of the drivers support vista. I have downloaded the updates from your links, and so far my screen is crystal clear!

    Thanks for the message.

    The laptop screen was working, but today when I started the laptop, the screen broke up into lines again. It tried to resume after I powered off and on again. I got a mssg "Attempt to reset display. Failed" I did another start up repair which reported - Root cause found: unknown bugcheck : Bugcheck 116 parameters = 0x85e4a008,0x8c2094f0, 0x0, 0x2. Repair action : System files integrity check & repair. Result : Failed. Error code 0x2. I then did a chkdsk/f from command prompt. It found - 5 unindexed files processed. Found no problems but failed to transfer logged message to the event log with status 50.

    I rebooted and managed to attach an external monitor. My system crashed - blue screen. I rebooted and windows problem reports told me my Raid controller was missing a driver which I downloaded from Intel.

    I have just finished doing that, so do not know if that sorted the problem yet. I will keep the external monitor plugged in, and see what happens.

    After 2 days of no problems and a clear screen, I appear to be back at square 1.

    I have the updated drivers for my Nvidia card. When I try to boot in normal mode, my coputer shuts down to prevent damage. I managed to write down the cause of the problem before the message went off, it said nvlddmkm.sys. I get a blue screen when I try to reboot. I can get in after 20 or so minutes to safe mode with networking. When I checked the properties of the non plug and play driver vgasave, the resourses had a red circle around a blue centre with the following:

    I/O Range 03B0-03BB, I/O Range 03C0-03DF, Memory Range 000A-0000-000BFFFF.

    Then conflicting devices :

    Input/Output Range 03B0 - 03BB used by:
    Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960/GS965 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01
    Input/Output Range 03C0 - 03DF used by:
    Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960/GS965 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01

    Mobile Intel(R) PM965/GM965/GL960/GS965 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01


    Should I uninstall any of these drivers, and/or can I just take the PCI Express card out and still use my laptop. Would that affect using a webcam on skype etc, or only the video comming into my laptop? I just don't know what to do, can anyone please advise me?
