    Hey guys,

I don't know what was wrong with me but I tried this question on Yahoo answers and ended up getting flamed by a butt-turkey. Pardon my language.
I was looking at this computer
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Acer+-+...ssor/9555769.p?id=1218127632130&skuId=9555769
and would like to know if it's specs are good to play the Sims 2. It is the only game my little sister plays and I was hoping we could get her this computer for Christmas since she is going to need a laptop for college, and it would be nice if she could play the only game she plays besides the school stuff.

So would it run fine? The system bus is 667mhz which . . . well I don't even know what it is. The Ram is 3GB and the processor is 1.6ghz. the graphics card is a Radeon HD 3200 and the machine is preloaded with Windows 7. So take a look at the specs on the link (please) and please tell me if I'm wasting my time with this thing.

Thank you all and everyone have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Hmm, the Sims page says Radeon 7000 video card or better.

Good point - I'd be willing to bet, though, that the HD 3200 will be alright...most of the time, those 'recommended minimum specs' pages are pointing towards higher end products...

After all, I'm running XP Service Pack 3 on a 1.2gHz machine with 256 mb PC-133 RAM, which all the 'experts' say can't be done...

    ;)

I have an HD 4850 on my desktop and can you run it says my pc blows the sys req's out of the water on recommended, not just minimum. My daughter played the sims 2 university(last expansion for sims 2 i believe) on her old laptop with no problems and a newer laptop with no problems, with specs lower than the one your looking at i believe.

The only think i do not know much about is athalon processors, so if someone else knows more if that is within the specs? I would think yes as its 64 bit tech and cant imagine it wouldnt. Hell, it can run on a windows ME machine LOL

As far as the vid card goes, the HD 3200

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-780g-chipset,1785-10.html

look at the amd 780G, which is the HD 3200(not sure why it has 2 names) but it plays quake 4 at 28.8 fps. Id imagine it would play sims 2 just fine.

Not to go OT here but that's what I started out with, except it was a 1GHz Celeron. Yes, things 'may run' but I remember XP ran very slow on those specs. As to games, they usually post minimum and recommended which I don't see here. The 'minimum' specs are usually not decent enjoyment specs.

That laptop, though nicely priced, might not cut the mustard. I'm just saying be careful out there.;)

Agreed - these days, 'caveat emptor' takes on a new importance...

I've not used or worked on any Acer laptops - I have serviced several Acer netbooks, however, which is itself an indicator that the Acer brand may not be up to snuff...

Our local Best Buy will let you load any valid software on any of their display models for testing - maybe try a copy of the Sims 2 on the Acer?

Also, consider the season - I believe that after the holidays, you may be able to find a better machine for the price...

Thank you all for your help. Unforeseen circumstances have changed the plan A LOT. But I will definitely keep your advice in mind when looking after the holidays.

All of you have a Merry Christmas.
    And thank you again.

    Bobo,
It would probably play SIMS okay. It is a single core, but that is not all bad. It is a great price - she probably won't need a ton of horsepower in college, at least for the first year or two.
Can you get laptops with more horsepower? Of course. Can you get them for $299? I highly doubt it!
    Have a great Christmas!
    Dave
