Ok, guys, I've reached a point of completely anger (I've been fighting for three days).

My problem is this: I recently did a system restore and have since updated my display drivers, downloaded and installed Direct X 9.0, and all that wonderful stuff. Well, a few weeks after I did all that, I got around to installing CS:S. Everything worked fine, it updated, contacted the Master Game Server, all without a hitch. Then I went to join a server [Just some random server] and that's when I started to get angry. It started to join like normal; I've been playing CS:S for a year or so. Same computer and all. But, when it hit the part of loading a server that says "Parsing Game Info" it simply paused there, well many, many servers later, I hit one that had some sound mods (Like the Quake "Dominating!" or whatever) and it passed the "Parsing" phase, well all was fine and dandy, but once I got into the game, I had roughly enough time to click the first "OK" button before I got the "Warning: Connection Problem" Well, I checked my connection and it was fine. The server list would still load, and everything else. In case you're wondering, the only message I got was "Lost connection to server."

I've checked my Norton Firewall. Both HL2.exe and Steam.exe are on "Permit All."

I went out today and bought another copy, well, that was a no go. However, I'm not upset, I got Day of Defeat: Source, and I like WWII games.

I'm so angry, I really, really hope some one can help.

In response to restoring the computer; that's when this mess started. Also, I don't have another internet connection.

I know I suggest this alot, try but going to start, run, and type "%temp%" (no quotes). Delete the contents of this folder (make sure steam is not running in the background first, some stuff may be in use and not delete). See if that helps!

    Try what Gecks said

are you having the same problems with DoD? or is it just cs?

More system info could help people help you.:)

    My only suggestions are to:
    1. Find the clientregistry.blob in your steam folder and delete it.
this seems to fix a lot of these type of steam account/connection issues. Don't ask me how, just give it a try. It won't hurt. The file will be replaced by steam the next time you boot steam.

    2. Look in the steam support forums. You are far more likely to get an answer over there than here.

    Good luck.

Both, DoD goes no where as well.

Ok, tried the ClientRegistry.blob trick; I'm still getting stuck at "Parsing Game Info..."

I would suggest losing Norton's, go with Kerio, it's smaller and 100X better and it doesn't interupt gameplay.

If it's the Security Suite, just go with avast! and Windows Defender as well, to be honest with you, my backup PC has been running that setup for 5 months, everyday it's used for random surfing it says clean, Norton's is overrated, bloatware and a piece of crap.

I would think it's Norton's messing with the connection, it did that to me on numerous occasions when I used it playing CS:S.

As Dark said. Or alternatively, uninstall your Nortons crap and go with ZoneAlarm free or Sygate free for your firewall, and AVG (free and very effective) for antivirus. I use ZA and AVG on my kids machine, have done for 12 months, no problems, and my son plays CS, WoW, etc etc etc. as well as filesharing and general browsing.

I played it with Norton before and I've disable Norton and it still doesn't run.

How long have you let it hang? Sometimes it will take a minute or two even on my computer but that is very rare, the only time it takes forever is when it was parsing the server infi when i first ran the game, it might be running thru whatever sequence it was before again since you have upgraded your system, i would recommend letting it run for a few minuts and if nothing happens i am really not sure what to tell you, contact steam official tech support and ask them * you might have to look around there site for a little bit to figure out how to ask them directly)]

Edit: If you have a router you may also want to fiddle with that, such as firewall settings and port redirects

Can you please tell me, very clearly, how to reformat Windows XP?
Especially what to do to reinstall XP -- what order of installations, which choices, etc. I need to do this, but can't find clear enough directions anywhere.

    Many thanks.

Well, with my computer as it's coming up, it says "Press F11 to start restore."
However, most computers come with disks to do it.
