Couple of problems, possibly related: hdc hardware and svchost.exe

So, I'm just going to lay out pretty much everything wrong with my comp and hope someone can provide some insight.

Every time I boot up, windows tries to install some hardware known as hdc. The only change I have made inside of my comptuer is the installation of a new fan. This 'new hardware found' crap started a few days after this. After a failed attempt at installation, I 'finish', and proceed normally. Annoying, and possibly causing problems? Not sure.

About 10 minutes into my session, svchost.exe pops up an error saying: "The application has attempted to address memory at 0x********." the *'s change every time, so no point in writing them unless someone needs it. If I cancel, visual c++ opens and tries to debug, although every entry in the page at any address is usually ????????. Interesting. If I just click ok, svchost.exe quits, and I lose most of my sound. Windows, interestingly enough, still plays sound when I restart or receive another error message. Perfect sound, from the speakers, as if nothing was wrong. When I try to play music in winamp, I get: "Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078." I cannot play sound in games or movies either. However, if I am already playing a game while I receive this message (which causes a sudden jump out of game), I can click OK, go back to the game, and still have sound. once I exit the game, I don't have sound until another reboot.

So, what have I done about this before asking for help? Many, many scans of adaware, trojan hunter, hijack this, spyware doctor, avg and norton. I clean everything I can and am almost positive I don't have anymore viruses.

It is extremely frustrating that if I wish to play a game, I have to start within the first five minutes of bootup or I won't have sound. I will post a similar question in the software thread, but wasn't sure if this was a hardware or software related issue. Please, please help. So much time wasted with constant restarts.

    There's a clue in there somwhere?Hmmm?got it!

"Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. :D

So so find out the name/model of your soundcard and upgrade to the latest drivers. :)If it doesn't work it wont harm anything.

yeah i have latest drivers from abit website. I tried looking for older drivers, but to no avail. Tried reinstalling, same problem. I think driveres are conflicted with something but can't tell what. If I close soundmanager immediately after bootup, svchost will not have an error, but eat up all of my processor to the point I can't even open taskmanager to kill it. If anyone has ideas of where else I can post, I would appreciate that also.
