Heya. Im just about to upgrade my system to a new 64 bit pci-e system.
my main concerns are with the CPU, GFX, PSU, Cooling and Controllers.

Im looking at purchasing a Athlon 64-bit 3700+ SD and a 6800GS(pci-e) my new mobo and ram are irrellevant so ill leave them out.

    Here are my questions:

1.) is the stock cooling on the 3700+ sufficient and reasonably quiet?

2.)i have a older generic 400W psu (around 2 years old) which i beleive is only 20 pin, am i right in thinking i can plug into a 24 pin mobo fine?

3.)(based on PSU info above) will my psu be able to hook up that wierd rail thingy to my 6800GS?

4.)Will my 400w PSU run a 3700+ and 6800GS fine? im not planning on O/C'n? Its currently providing juice ot my 3ghz P4 HT and 9600XT(o/c)

5.) im thinking of investing in a fan controller thingy but my case has a drive door and i fear the nobs on the controller will not allow my door to close properly. Can i slide the controller back a bit? here a link to the controller im after http://shop.pc.net.au/A.i.TECH_1597_/Coolermaster_AEROGATE1.html

Thanks guys, i might post some more up wen i think of em but this shud get me on the right track.
    All comments welcome.

about the power supply, id go at least 500 for a p4 and 6800gs. It will work, just probably wont be that stable. But im pretty sure that you can use a 20 pin on a 24 pin mobo.

The latest AMD's have come a long way as far as the standard heatsink/fan are concerned.

As far as power supply, I would suggest minimum 450W.

PCIXpress requires a lot of power, and from a quality brand.

if you arent gonna o'c ur proc, then the stock cooling should do fine; thats what they were build for, cooling procs at standard temps. Otherwise, get a zalman or sumthin, those are really good.

I have an A64 3000+ Venice and the stock cooler is fantastic. It is as quiet as any aftermarket cooler you will get and the heatsink is barely even warm. Heck, it stays so cool that the fan shuts off occasionally, then just restarts when it needs to cool itself down a bit. Its even a bit overclocked.

sweet so thats cpu and maybe psu sorted. how bout that wierd aux power thing that goes to 6800's will my older psu be fine for that? and will those fan controllers slide back a bit so i can still close my drive door?

    tahnks for all this guys.
