Couple of ?????

I'd been suffering through dial-up and have arrived in the 21st century!! Love broadband. My main question is how to keep some of the programs from loading at start up. I've got 13 programs that load and most of them I don't use on a regular basis. OK, so once I'm told how to prevent some programs from loading, will I still be able to use them if I need to without having to start up again?

One more stupid question.... I've enjoyed Window Media. I made a mistake by downloading MS Winter Fun Pack Wallpaper 2004 for XP. I'm not impressed and tried to remove it. I've gone into All Programs, found the uninstall but didn't work. I've tried Control Panel, Add/Remove and keep get a dialogue box that tells me there has been an Error 1713 and it can't be uninstalled. I've contacted MS tech support but haven't heard from them yet....only been 4 days. Anybody have any suggestions?

For your first question, please read this link,http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/, and yes you will be able to use these programs without restarting. Most programs install a desktop icon in addition to adding themselves to the autorun menu.
