Searched for a thread related to this with no luck so...here it goes.

If someone has Cox Security Suite please let me know if you have or have had this similar instance.

I have an icon in my task bar that says "a scheduled scan is currently in progress". I have been on my computer for the past hour and a half and it is still there. When I open the Cox Security Suite it does not display a virus scan in progress within the Virus Check tab.

This icon appears every time I start up my PC. It has not gone away yet and will not go away unless I shut down the Cox Security Suite.

This is not really a problem although it does run my processor down somewhat, it would just be nice to know what is going on.

    Thanks.

Watch your hard drive light, if it is burning steady you will know it is scanning, if not i wouldnt worry. ed

The HDD light flickers like usual. I'm not too worried just curious, as I have never seen it up until about a week and a half ago.

I'm considering it. Funny how a normal scan with Cox ends up being of about 60,000 files when before when I had Norton for a 60 day trial it would scan like 120,000 items.

It has to be skimping on areas of my hard drive.

Uh, guys, cox only bundles those products, they didn't design or make any of the software though.

Will it make a difference if we knew who did?

Solved the problem and then another one arose with the Cox Security Suite.

Did a repair of the Software. This fixed my initial problem. Had to go into add remove programs and hit the Change button. From their it is self explanatory. Thanks Plodr for the site!

After the initial setup after the repair I decided to scan for spyware. After the scan was underway about a minute or two into the scan my computer shuts down. Apparently the scan is so intensive it over heats my processor. I have the BIOS set to shut down at 50 degrees Celsius.

I will consult the web help once again to try to figure this out.

Check to see that you do not have any scheduled scans. Do not set any automatic scans (virus), reboot and the icon will be gone.
