I'm having difficulty setting the index page in my cPanel file manager for my website; I've gone through several guides and they haven't helped. I placed index.htm (also tried renaming it to index.html) in my public_html folder but I still get the vDeck "Welcome to your future website" message when I go to my domain name. I think I need to delete the temp. page but I'm not sure what it is; there's an index.html under www/WysiwygPro and www/WysiwygPro/editor_files. Anyone experienced with cPanel know what I need to do?

have you tried adding INDEX.HTML to your list of documents in your websites configuration?

No I haven't, how do I access the configuration?

do you have access to the server? (not ftp access)

    Yes, it's a personal website.

    start.. run type
    inetmgr.exe hit enter
double click on your server name, find your website in the list and right click on it. Choose properties.. then choose DOCUMENTS tab and add INDEX.HTML and INDEX.HTM to the list of default documents. Apply and test.

Oh, sorry, I guess you meant the host for the page, since that run command didn't work. Someone else is hosting it for me so I don't have access.

I had to delete all the vDeck supplied files in my public_html folder in order for the url to point to my index... go into the settings page in vDeck and put index.html as the highest priority. And from there I believe you can also set redirects for all other extensions to loop back onto the page you want to initially show... that way if anyone manually plugs in a .php, .asp, .htm, etc it will go back to your default index.

    What's your site's url?

Assuming you mean the vti files, deleting them won't disrupt anything will it?

Had to reset account because I deleted some important files earlier, would hate to have to do it twice in one day. :p

Nah, not the .vti files. I just meant the default display files... index.html and index.gif.

 I don't have any files named as such.

so then just pluggin in your url won't bring up your index? I'm confused lol

Well, no index files that take up any space, or any default .gifs.

Typing in http://(my domain name).com results in the vDeck page where it has their vDeck logo and "Welcome to your future website" below that.

What's your websites' address? If the temp files aren't there anymore, then whatever you have in place should be displayed when you load it up in a browser.

There's no publish function in the file manager is there?

Do they have you on a temporary server until they DNS resolves?

I'm not sure what you mean. All I did when I set up my site was set up vDeck's ftp and admin passwords for the admin interface and the database, and then pretty much uploaded my site via FTP. I haven't had to go back into vDeck at all since :\

I guess so, I'm not able to log into my regular cPanel route so I have to through a IP-type address.

It looks like I'll have to upload my webpages because I have no idea what's wrong in my file manager. I was going to before but I heard it was unstable and that other people could modify it (can't remember exactly how).

All I did with mine is what I said, set the ftp, admin and database passwords, then pretty much never went back. If I edit anything, I usually log in with my ftp client, download the file, edit it and then reupload.

Hang on. Reset your browser cache. I had this problem earlier today and it was because I was caching the page re-directing to the "Welcome to your free web-space!"

No, still the dumb vDeck page. :(

The source code of the default index.html page contains a message and says "In order to view your website, please remove this file "index.html" and replace it with your own index.html file."

However, I've looked through every single folder and I can't find a file with the HTML found in the default index page. Maybe someone knows the name of it?

It's up now! Little clue as to why it's now coming up.I suppose it might be that it hadn't propogated yet, but it's been a good bit since the 48-hour period. Thanks for the input.
