    Greetings All...

Have an interesting issue with XP Pro
it seems to be using more cpu power then it should. When the client box sits idle cpu usage is around 40% or so....this is no good.

I have run ad-ware, multi AV scans. Below is the Hijack scan...
    Anyone have an idea??
PS running Spybot S&D now will post when finished

    Thanks

yep good advice Lugtaz ... as that will give us a % CPU usage for running processes.... alsp try closing the none essential system tray programs down like MusicMatch, Real Player etc etc and tell us does the CPU usage change?

iirc WMP9 on mine uses even when idle 10% cpu

there is nothing going on in taskman...sometimes it services @ 10 - 15 % its always changing. Have run ad-ware...SnDestroy in safemode...also online vs's. Crazy it makes me. Should I just put in the install cd and let it to a hot install??

You haven't posted in almost a month...what exactly is the problem? I mean, I know you're saying something is using a lot of CPU - but have you even figured out WHAT it is? (maybe I missed something here)

    .
Now THAT is a drastic step to take. Think you better wait for more advice.

Do you mean in task manager, sometimes SERVICES. EXE is using 10-15% CPU?

Under the processes tab, if you right click on SERVICES.EXE, or any of the processes, for "set priority" is it set at "normal"???

It might be that you have a few services running in the background which are using up those CPU cycles. I would suggest checking out www.blackviper.com and sorting out your service configuration.

  9. Hi folks,

    I have a related question:

I notice that my System Idle Process is taking up a lot (sometimes well over 50%) of my CPU, seems to be slowing down my computer. Do any of you experienced folks have any advice/knowledge/thoughts on that?

Many thanks, ya'll provide a great service here!

Mark.. hi and welcome, the idle % of the cpu time is OK as that shows that the CPU is doing nothing at that moment.. its when idle time is at 0% you should be worried ( unless you are running a cpu intensive program.... distributed computing apps like folding@home use 100% cpu time thus reducing idle time to 0% )

what I would do is look in Task Manager > Processes and findout what process or processes are using the other 50% up?

my system idle process % .. as i'm actually doing nothing apart from surfing the net...
