Can anyone here recommend a good, free, easy to use, basic CPU burn-in/stress test program?

Yes good for newbs too, reason that they mention Overclockers is many OCers will use burn-in apps to test stability over time.

These apps are just really putting a 100% load on your CPU to test for weaknesses or a potential failure, but main warnings are have good temp monitor app to keep an eye on temps, depending on the CPU your using, but if newer CPU they have throttling to minimize damage to the cpu through heat.

    CPU stress test
If you have a Dual Core CPU you would want to run/stress/test both cores at the same time;)

I'd suggest running two instances of Prime 95
Or better yet, just download Orthos http://sp2004.fre3.com/

I am running PC Wizard to see the CPU temps. Is that OK, or should I install Asus Probe?

What kind of temps am I looking for here?

    The CPU is a Celeron D 331 2.66 ghz Socket 775

Any temp monitoring app is good, temps at full load you'd really wish to see are anything below manufacturers recomended max and in the case of the Celeron D 331 that is 67°C but to be happy anything below 60°C is preferable.

Burn In 2008. Not released yet but claims to produce more heat than Prime 95. Releases sometime in April. I will update when I find more information. For now Prime 95 works well or CPU Burn In.
