You may want to clear/reset your BIOS and revert any previous settings to standard and see if it will boot then. Remeber to check your system "Boot Order" and reselct RAID (if you had this previously).

hey everyone the processor is in working but the cpu is not at the running clock speed or gh it is intended to, it is adjusting from 2.0 gh to 3.0 how do I keep it where it needs to be?

Just downloaded CPU Z and now I dont have to be going back and forth to bios and to windows.
Just so we are on the right page together I have a new
    Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo
    Spec
    3 gh 6mb l2 cache
    1333mh fsb
    45nm
    cpu
I have downloaded new bios update and still have the problem with its ratio going from 2 gh to 3 gh and I noticed that the multiplier is changing from 6 to 9. what is needed to stabilize these settings? Thanks to anyone for helping.

Check your bios for setting similar to cool and quite or active cooling this is the most likely cause, you should be able to disable it in your bios unless you have installed gigabyte software with bios control.

You shouldn't be experiencing any performance issues if this is the case, you can test if your losing cpu performance by using a cpu benchmark, your multiplyer and mhz should stay at maximum during the benchmark.

Sandra is probably the quickest and easiest

I've downloaded your manual and it seems CPU Thermal Monitor 2 lowering the speed of your cpu for protection which is a safety feature,at this point don't try disabling it,double check your cpu temps and post them, double check you have the heatsink installed properly, check you fan is at full speed and installed correctly.

If its lowering your temps now while your not under load you may have a cooling problem,I havn't found any data on the threshold at which it becomes active,my guess would be at 80-100c,put your finger on your heatsink to check its getting nice and warm which is normal.

actually the board does drop from 9 to 6 multiplier when idle and when needed jumps right back up. I have the same board and my quad runs at 1600mhz when idle down from stock 2400mhz. Never notice a slowdown when I need the power it just bumps right up. No temp problems involved (never gets above 51c under 100 cpu usage for 72 hours with f@h)there is a setting in bios to turn it off :) I'l find it and post back.

hey all thanks for the reply to rikky..... Im pretty sure not temp because bios says 36 c plus ive tested on the last cpu to see if mobo will shut down if too hot and it does. but Iknow that maybe could be mis read also. Being an engine builder, I do understand that just becasue it says one thing dont mean it is... but the case also has a gauge and it says 40 c . And I burnt some dvd's with roxio today and temp never moved @ almost 50% cpu usage. But anything is possible

Ibonkers thank you for the reply, I also was wondering if that was the case that it is an on demand type of thing but I thought I would see a bigger performance gain than wat I did maybe I hiked myself up too much, I dont know,,, with my 2.14 seem same speed and bios said it was running at 1.6gh so being new to all this, Im not really sure.
also back to rikky for a sec I will check the quiet n cool to see if it is the reason I didnt think of it before thanks. if any more input feel free to give.

going from one core2 duo to another not much change will be evident. They will both multitask about the same. It may encode movies faster or eak out a few more fps in games. So unless you really put a strain on your system you may not notice much if any difference in responsiveness etc. Not to worry though :) it never shows a slowdown when I "try" to bog the system down :)

Rikky is right for an AMD but you have the Intel there and the options affecting you are C1E and EIST, basically they are a combinatin of "power saving" and quicker cooling of the CPU. Intended to give you a "green" PC:

A good guide for the BIOS settings with a C2D:

As you should note as soon as you load the system the multiplier and CPU Frequency both come upto their stock settings (or they should be).

    Hope it helps.:major

Hey everyone yeah it does as soon as I put a load on it the cpu goes to the required speed. I f I just had the 1333 mh ram then maybe would I see the diff?

Well your CPU is still set to a specific multiplier and speed (MHz) it wont go any further that it's a "defined" limit even if you stick in "faster RAM". otherwise you can re-define it's speed/multi but that is called OverClocking (OC). You need a lot of knowledge for this otherwise you break things:major

yeah not quite ready for all that yet, if it was one I didnt care so much for I would learn on it more but Im still in the build of this one Im on now and dont want to have to but new parts from burning them up... Its fast now but, you tend to get used to it and want it faster.... just like my cars, I have a 12 sec (in the Quarter mile) car and it is a daily driver can drive on the interstate with the flow of traffic not over heat and still havent pushed it's potential or added the nitrous.
