Right, for the same money (if you include the cost of the mobo) the choice is between

    Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140, S775, 1.6 GHz, 800MHz FSB, Allendale Core, 2x 512KB Cache, Retail in a Asus P5B-VM iG965, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 800, SATA II, uATX, On Board VGA

    AMD AM2 Athlon 64 4800+ Windsor Core, Dual Core 2.5GHz, 2x 512KB Cache, Energy Efficient Retail in a Asus M2A-VM HDMI, AMD 690G, S AM2, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 800, SATA II, uATX

The Intel chip will overclock to about 3GHz, not sure about the AMD.
I'd like to stick with AMD but I have two CoreDuo's folding at the moment (1.66MHz) and they really churn the WU's out.

I'm open to advice - which to go for??

I would say AMD. I Think AMD is better for ocing.

Im not sure about the AMD but personally i would go for the Allendale, its actaully the same core used in the e4x00, so these are actaully c2ds and the e4300 is a very good overclocker to my knowledge. 3.00ghz should be a stroll in the park.

I bought the E2140 and an Asrock board with onboard VGA. My particular choice of mobo has limited my OC to 2.7GHz :D
It's folding at about 500 points a day.
    It's near silent
    Running 43C flat out
Chip, mobo & ram cost just over £100 :drool
