Could you double check the cpu's you can have, and post a few more specs,do you mean a 2.2 celeron or a 1.3 p3?

yes, 2.2 celeron, 1.3 P3 (both laptop CPUs). P3 was baught in about 2002 or 2003...Celeron in Nov. 2004....is it worth going for the faster one but losing SpeedStep?

    Any other choices? :)

If it's only between those two, then the Celeron 2.2.

friend and I switching parts...and i have the 2.2..and the laptop i'm getting has the 1.3...so i wanted to keep my 2.2 and wanted to make sure it would be worth it.

Given the huge difference between the p3 1.2 and the Celeron 2.2 I'd have to go with the Celeron -I'd be wary of FSB speeds, though.

*Disclaimer: I've never run a Celeron -and don't know much about 'em -so, at the very least, be aware of FSB speeds. -Don't base your decision on my reply!

Yeah, keep the 2.2 Celeron, if you can. However, some laptops have the CPU soldered in rather than a socket.

Celeron's are also great for overclocking, and are a pretty good budget chip.

P3 = 135Mhz FSB ( i think, something around there..in the 100s)..2.2 = 400Mhz FSB....would it be worth it trading a $100 desktop..for the Inspiron 1000, with fried mobo, that can be replaced for $358....so finally spending $458 on a $600-700 laptop (bought in Novermber 2004). The dekstop will go with 450Mhz P3, 256MB RAM (old SD RAM) and the laptop comes with 256MB DDR, and i have 512MB extra so i can immediatly upgrade. Desktop has 30 or 40GB HD (depending upon what i can get from another friend) and the Laptop has 30GB....i can't replace the mobo immediatly due to the "little" problem of money...but i can use an external monitor for a while (mobo is fried so it shorts out whenever internal LCD is plugged in) so i can still use it untill i get money, just not as a laptop. The desktop is not my main computer...just a computer that i have fun with. as i said this is a trade so i'm paying no money for the laptop, just the desktop, and some labor installing the person's network with all the computer, and installing printer and sharing it over the network..nothing major. Worth it ?
