I have a question, what would an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz CPU compare to in the Pentium 4 range in performance?

Also, I heard the low-range Conroe (middle range Intel Core 2 Duo) have good overclocking ratios, what do you think a 2.16Ghz could get to with normal fan cooling?

no idea about an OC, but the Core2 Duo e6700 your refering to is faster than the FX62 which is faster than any PentiumD or Pentium 4.

Lol, the faster than the FX62 is miss-representative in the graphs Intel provided.

Well from what I've seen, the graph shows Intel's chip running at 100% and AMDs FX-62 running at anywhere from 0-100%.

so thats not the point the fact is that the intel pwns the amd right now.

I think it is a point. My 2.4Ghz P4 is gonna own 100 Xeons if that isn't miss-representative mate!

Back on track, does anyone one have a comparison?

Also, I meant the 2.4Ghz, sorry.

candle is right, the Core 2 procs SMOKE AMD's best. THat p4 cant hold a candle to what any Core 2 proc can do. Ill look for a comparison later, dont got the time now

I don't think it's just your CPU that makes your computer kick-ass.

Nope a good AMD 64 with a good video card will hands down pwn a Core 2 with a medicore video card or less ram.

hmmm a good quad processor with a ton of memory and a decent video card will too! Everyone is worried about processors, wait a couple of months and you will see the biggest rush for RAM and video upgrades ever in the computer world! Thanks to Vista!
I think it's a combination of all, a decent processor, (or processors) enough RAM, the right video card for what your going to use the machine for, and tuning whatever version of Windows that you are using, to try and get all of them working together as best they can, then hope some idiot doesn't come along with a virus, or malware thats going to mess it all up. I am not convinced that the latest is the greatest, I remember all to well the hype over the Pentium 75 and it was a complete failure, I also remember Windows ME which was the next greatest it to was a failure. If you can sit down at your computer and have it do all the things that you do on a computer then your set, sure it's great to get in and brag that you have whatever the latest and greatest is, but in the end does it really outpreform your old one? A AMD 64 with a good video card will outpreform a Core2 with a medicore video with less RAM sure it will, will it out preform a core2 with the same video and RAM as the AMD, maybe slightly in a benchmark somewhere, but the key to Windows and any GUI OS is simple never forget that you are drawing graphics on your screen all the time, that all Windows is! A graphic intensive program, will this machine of mine out perform brand X's latest greatest....well the research and testing I have done on this computer gives it a PR of 2600 for just the Processors, throw in the video card I have and the amount of RAM and then test it as a whole, well Dell says equal to a P42.8 I am not impressed because I have this computer setup for one goal of mine, to never see a Windows hourglass again!

Yep and a PII200mhz with enough RAM and Video will out perform a 1ghz with a 2mb embeded video and 256mb of RAM put them in equal systems and see what you get.

the point is, it costs more to buy Conroe + board than to go A64+board, that means you can afford better video. For your money AMD is still the way to shop.

    Thanks everyone..

I was more interested in just knowing the comparison, not purchasing one.
