Depends on the processor. Vcool should make AMD chips actually shut off when its not in use. You could try CPUCooL (which Ive used, to some sucess).

XP is supposed to send HLT commands to the processor when its not in use, to cool it down. However, when youre overclocking it wont make that much difference. Best to get a decent physical cooler really.

Windows based Overclocking utility. Have one simelar for my Abit board (called OC Guru) but it doesnt work, freezes the system if you try and make a change without actually changing the FSB/multiplier. For "safe" overclocking you would wanna change any settings through BIOS. That way you dont face the problems of data corruption or screwing the BIOS chip if Windows falls over while youre making a change.

Give it a go, if it works, thats great!

Oh and a note on overclocking, most of the time if you have a synchronous system (i.e. FSB is matched to the max bus speed for ram and processor) its usually the RAM that fails first, not the processor. If you really want to get into OCing I would recommend getting higher rated DDR ram.

I've heard and read about in some other message board's that it doesent work very well, freeze up's, inaccurate settings, and readings etc.
    Reccomend use your bios instead.
Maybe it would work for you???
Worst case: fry your cpu and board!

Forget software CPU coolers for OC'ing.
Having to use a software CPU cooler is your system telling you it needs more cooling. They are not a fix. They idle your CPU to lower temps, but sooner or later you will game your way into overheating your CPU.
Get the cooling hardware to support your OC 24/7 or reduce it.
My CPU gets its hottest in Prime95 (full CPU use) so I get enough cooling to handle my OC with Prime95 running.
Sometimes you get a surprise in how hot your CPU is getting. Diablo][, surprisingly, gets my CPU hotter than UT2004. If I had only tested UT I could have overheated in D2.
There are a few software OC tools, but BIOS settings are more reliable for OCing your multiplier/FSB.

aLLiKZar It's not too late to back out!

I have tried the EasyTune software from Gigabyte. it works well for me, but I also use the Aerogate II for a physical reading as well so I get more accurate readings than what Easytune says. Both give different temps* but more accurate results are found in the BIOS.

hmmm... alot of info thanx again guys.. as you see im new and this comp is going to be my experimental comp and im trying to learn ..what i have for cooling on it is a volcano 11 cpu cooler and 6 fans 3 in and 3 out plus 2 fans in my PS the hotest it has run so far is 39 degrees at most but usually it runs at or around 29-31 degreesi know the board you really cant do much with but i was just looking for a way to OC it to 1900 or a 2000 AMD cpu....but like i said before thanx for ur suppore and help all

Cooling is important with oc but you must know all there is to know about bios and other tips/tricks for your motherboard. Only way to get good stable oc and best performance. If you can tweak memory controller on motherboard or may be even timings on memory itself you have gained a lot allready - oc should equal tested performance not just some colorful sliders in potential highrisk software oc-program. Gigabyte use a hidden bios section I think. Is it CTRL-F1 that enable the good stuff?, timings, voltage, fsb etc. That is the way you must go - have www.memtest.org and Prime95 ready, dont rely on luck ;) You should find a Gigabyte forum and dig out info, may be a certain bios is better. Try www.amdmb.com many of such places.

hey thanx again ive been on google search and done alot of reading and found out that my board i can increase the voltage and my FSB but so far i found nothing that helps me to what i need to change my fsb or my voltage or should i just change one ....thanx again all for the suport. also i did not see the form section for overclocking and for that im sry for posting this here so if someone could move to there i would thank them....as i said before sry for writing in the wrong form...
