Have a emachine 1.7gig Celeron, POS. Start up and it attempts to startup for a second then dies. Its not a power supply issue and I clean the cpu hs and fan. I unplugged all unnecessary components and tried again, same result. Could the cpu fan not spinning fast enough, be enough to cause this problem? But all signs point to motherboard or cpu.

Did you take the heatsink off of the cpu when you cleaned it...Maybe you didn't get it back on good!! (I.E...no new thermal paste, or maybe put it on backwards!! Don't laugh, it happens!!)

Or did this start before you cleaned the hardware?? If so...it could be a piece of ram going bad!!

computer didn't work before i cleaned it. It just wasn't working one day so i removed the hs and fan to clean them. So i didn't think the paste was the big problem or what caused all this.
