CPU does not support Win7 X64?!?!?!?

    We have a new netbook here with an Intel Atom N270 CPU. We're trying to install Win7 X64 Home Premium and it errors out stating that the CPU is not compatible with 64bit applications... WTF?!?!?! :confused :cry :mad

    Why would you want a 64 bit os on a notebook?

    surely you dont have 4g ram?

    New netbooks come with windows 7 Starter edition. There might be something on the motherboard that prevents a decent version of win 7 from running.

    Stick with 32bit and no higher that Home Premium Win7, especially if the notebook has less than 2GB ram, even if the CPU was 64bit compat, likelyhood is drivers may not be for the other components.

    I have a netbook and updated ram to 2GB and popped on Win7 32bit HP and runs fine, even with Aero on, but with it off its even better.

    Here's the story: a Hispanic guy bought the netbook at WorstBuy and wanted to ship it to Mexico to his sister. She speaks NO languages other than Spanish. All we had access to (at the time) was a 64bit version of Win7 Home Premium in Spanish. Since it didn't work, we tried reloading using 32bit software but then changed the setup language to Spanish. This resulted in the entire setup being in Spanish, but once we got to a desktop, it was English! DOH!!! We then used the system restore discs we created first (always do this FIRST when messing with stuff like this!) to reload again and again we tried changing the language to Spanish, and again we had a Spanish install, but an English desktop. We have since ordered the 32bit Spanish version of Win7 Home Basic, and we're all confident it will be OK . . . . .

    . . . . . . it better be!!!

    LOL roflmao LOL

    (When I started this thread, I was PO'd and very surprised that a modern day, brand new "PC" did not have 64bit capability)
