    HI

Is it just a CPU fan or the whole heatsink and fan that your after?

It can make a difference if the whole heatsink and fan to what one you get as it hs to be able to fit your CPU socket type and also fit inside your case (as some are huge) and not come into contact with other hardware like ram and gfx card.

So what case, what CPU and what motherboard do you have?

If just the fan then what heatsink make do you have now?

    well im getting a . . .
    Intel DP45SG Motherboard RAM Bundle - OCZ Extreme PC10600 2GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB), Intel P45, Socket 775, ATX Motherboard
    and the processer is. . . .
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor HH80562PH0678MK - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Kentsfield, Quad-Core, OEM, Socket 775, Processor (and it comes without a fan "Note: A CPU cooling fan is not included with this CPU. In order to safeguard your warranty and achieve optimum performance we recommend purchasing a new compatible cooling fan. -TIGER DIRECT")
and my case will be a NZXT Tempest ATX Mid-Tower Case here is a link. . .
    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicati...asp?EdpNo=3911521&csid=ITD&body=WARRANTY#tabs
so im just getting the CPU and nothing else so i might need a heat sink and a fan

    Hi

Yes you'll need a Heatsink and Fan, plus if possible get some Arctic Silver thermal paste as its properties do help cool the CPU by a few degrees over using some of the supplied stuff.

As for Heatsink Fans, I tend to favour Zalman all copper heatpipes and have a CNPS9900 at present, its large but my case is fairly wide so is fine, cools my Intel Quad i7 920 @35°C idle under load depending on room temp could hit around 45-50°C

Other Heatsinks to look at are from the likes of Coolermaster and Thermaltake, but a large review of many popular ones here this is the third part but parts I and II are linked too on this page
