    Hi Everyone,
My computer shut down yesterday and when I restarted it, I got a message of CPU Fan failure. So, I took the canned air to it and cleaned it off. After encouraging it a little bit it took off spinning normally. However, this made me nervous and I would hate to cause any permanent damage, so I would like to know how I can determine what to buy as a replacement.

I dont know what to match it to.. the CPU, the MOBO, the computer etc.
I have a Dell Inspiron Desktop 546 with an AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core Processor 2.30 GHz.

I cannot figure out the MOBO,other than looking on Dell and it appears it is theirs. Belarc gives this info for "circuit" board: Board: Dell Inc. 0F896N A02
The fan I dusted looks like a standard black plastic one that sits on top of the CPU.

Sorry I am not technical enough to know if this is enough information, but thanks for any help you can give.

Your CPU uses the AM2+ socket, so that is what you're looking for if you're planning to buy a replacement cooler.

I doubt that you'd be able to find just the fan; if you can, great, but you're probably better off just getting a whole new heat sink and fan.
