This probably sounds dumb, but how do i get the clips to release from the fan on the cpu?

It depends on the fan you have.

i have a compaq in which i tried to release the heatsink to replace it .. but i was pressing so hard on the clips w/ a screwdriver i thought i was going to break the thing so i gave up ... so yea it depends on how the heatsink was installed

if its like im thinking... then you need to add a socket to the end of your screw driver....

what this will do is when you push down... (and yes its pretty hard but dont go too hard as cracking the cpu=deadcpu) you need to push down, and then pull out away from the heatsink

with a screwdriver that can be tough but by putting the socket on the end you can pull after you have the pin below the release point

google this if your having problems as you can actually get video of how to do it... infact i think its from amds website that has tutorials on how to do all that

    good luck buddy!

my $.02... and remember google is your friend
