I have an older Alienware Area 51 (purchased 08-2010) and have been having issues for some time now. Takes forever to boot up, open web pages, and FPS can go from 100+ down to 2. (during WOW so not intense graphics) I'm not sure how to test or what to test to figure out what's wrong.

Here is the info for this machine using Belarc

What CPU temperatures are you getting? It's sounding like a heat problem to me.

Kind of sounds like a failing hard drive. The spindle speed dropping off a few hundred RPMs or more would have that type of effect.

mdonah, thanks for replying. The temps are good. My system is water cooled and there are two large fans as well as active top venting

the mechanic, thanks for replying. Is there any way to test the HDs? What about other tests to check for issues?
