Give 2 Bit Geek a chat ... he seems to be a guru on AMDs ;)

I'm an Intel man myself. Sorry I can't be of any further help.

I'm no AMD "guru" but , tour 9750 is running at exactly 50% uf it's rated speed.

AMD has "cool & quiet" technology.
That is the AMD version of Intels "SpeedStep" .

Cool & quiet makes the CPU run at a reduced speed until the unit decides full speed is needed.

If you want your 9750 to run at full speed go in the BIOS & figure out how to disable "cool & quiet" .

I have always thought AMD & Intel need to be a little more honest in their advertizing .

I used a 2.33GHz CPU in the first "core" computer I built.
I thought something was wrong before I figured out why the CPU was running at 1.3GHz.

well i have cool and quiet disabled and i also put the chip into other motherboards and the same thing happened over and over

As I said, I'm no AMD "guru" .

You need to go to AMD's website & see if anything is avaiable for a phenom x4 9750 .

You might also check your BIOS.

Find out if all is set right for the CPU.

THe bottom line is if you have a phenom x4 9750 & it is running at half of it's rated speed then something isn't set right.

I'm not familure enough with a Phenom X4 to use AMD terminology but if it were a Intel CPU I would say the front bus or multiplier is wrong.

You need to find out what the specs are "Hypertransport" [?] etc. & set it right.

The alternate would be to set the motherboard to automatically detect the CPU.

A friend of mine recently built a Phenom 9550 unit & he about had a meltdown before he got everything right.

I wouldn't say i'm an AMD guru but I have a fairly long history of dealing with AMD CPU's :-D

I seem to follow an annoying pattern, I get a 2.4GHz CPU then 6 months later I get the 3.0GHz ver LOL this has been the my pattern through single, dual & quad cores. Thankfully I avoided tripple cores *shudders*.

Yes 1.2GHz is fairly odd but it isn't AMD Cool 'N' Quiet that just lowest the speed of you're CPU when you don't need it not all the time :confused

You could try making sure the FSB is set to 200 & the multiplier is set to X12 to make sure everyting is working correctly, also update you're BIOS using the ASUS update software & the latest BIOS 1002 to make sure you're mobo is detecting the CPU correctly.

I only have one last thing to say on the subject of the 9750, it was rubbish for gaming in my system, it was no better than the 6000+ X2 3.0GHz it replaced :-D

If you get it working "normally" & you still wanna change it gimme a PM or start a new thread & I will help you decide :)
