Was explorer.exe using all of the cpu? I belive thats a critical process thats why it crashed when you ended it. Your os might be damaged. If you can a clean install may solve the problem quickly.

OS = Operating System Ie: Windows XP, Linux, DOS.......etc Explorer.exe is the main component of ALL Microsoft OS's. Your system might have been doing a system scan, chkdsk, virus scan so if it just occurrs ever know and then no worries mate. If on the other hand it occurs on a regular bases you Might have a virus!!! Hope that helps supergallas Sorry juggalo29935 you beat me to it

Supergallas glad we could help, and no disabling explorer.exe in Task Manager that once will not cause any problems down the road. Plus you learned a valuable lesson ALWAYS double check before disabling anything, and get two or three points of view on a matter before doing anything. Some well intentioned advice can cause major headaches........Slow and Steady wins the Race
