Hi all in my lap top I have an AMD XP2800m the multiplier should be 16, but it almost always runs at 4(probably 98% of the time). I tried to up it, but then my computer would lock up. Any advice on this situation?

laptops have what you called mobile processor, this means the multipler is unlock. when you are not using the processor the multipler goes down to save energy like wise when you are using it the multiplier automatically goes up. The system you have may not like you to manually change the multipler. What brand is the laptop?

HP I figured it was putting it down to save power but it's weird that it never runs at full speed. I think it might be over heating but it's also odd that it would over heat at a stock voltage setting.
