CPU power saving tool

Hi

Is there any good tool out there to slow down the CPU?
I'm looking for something to make my laptop run longer when on battery power.

I'm just using word and browsing the net and such, so I guess running those few small programs on a 1.6 GHz CPU is a waste of power. A tool that would slow the CPU down to 300 MHz for instance would be very handy!

I already tried several programs but they were all crap. Some just took processor time AWAY from other applications, resulting in a 100% CPU load while others didn't seem to be doing anything at all, like Asus' PowerGear or whatever it's called.

Any advise?

 

Most laptops have the feature you described built into the hardware or it's available as a download from the manufacturer. Check your BIOS under Power Management; check the Control Panel too. Many laptop makers (Toshiba for example) have their own 'proprietary' power utility accessible thru the Control Panel......

I already tried that program Power4Gear, which is on the laptop's software CD and it is suppose to do this but like I said it's crap and does nothing really

and my BIOS doesn't have any power settings

I use it on my laptop to do the opposite on my laptop. My laptop is busy folding... I did play around with it some, and if I put it on battery optimized, it drops my CPU from 1.49Ghz to 500Mhz. Not sure if that will work for you or not.

I have that tried, yes. But it doesn't work for me, the current speed just stays on the maximum, no matter what setting I use
