Hey Everyone, I have a pc here, its a VIA chipset with a P4 2.0GHz CPU, 256 MB DDR RAM. The bracket on the board that holds the CPU fan was broken so the CPU fan was not in the CPU which burned the CPU up. It had a P4 2.0GHz CPU and I could not find this CPU to order so I had someone order it for me but I recieve it and its a P4 2.4GHz CPU. It works BUT when WindowsXP comes up it freezes. The BIOS detects it as a P4 1.5GHz CPU speed and thats my problem. I used my P4 2.0GHz CPU and it worked fine so I know its my CPU. Now my question is..Can I get the P4 2.4GHz to work or do I need to find a new P4 2.0Ghz to replace it?

Note: "I did look up jumper settings for this board so I could adjust clock speed and it didnt work, it didnt give video when I did this"

    Any suggestions?

if you google the model number on your board, you should be able to find out the fastest chip it can take.

I did that first, Google found a few pages about it, I found one site that said it does support that speed and some that does not, but I wasnt sure of the CPU because it had other names with it not just P4 2.0GHz.

I went form a P3.0 To a P3.2 and I had reinstall OS because your hd sees the old cpu . Keep asking on here and someone will help. They helped me. Good Luck Chuck

Well, what I have done testing everything I can think of, the original hard drive was full so I installed a new drive with a clean install of Windows XP Professional. It does the same exact thing even with a clean OS one the same system. So I know its the CPU but what I dont know is...is the P4 2.0GHz the max. CPU this particular board can support? Thanks for you reply though.
