CPU question

I have AMD's and Pentiums running like them both. Am saving to get me a smoker (fast) chip and Mobo. Newegg has the 3.4 intel w/ 1 meg cache for 305.00 the AMD's fastest speed is 2.4 the FX-53 is over 500.00. Now my 3200 athalon I think is faster then my 2.8 P-4 , 533 FSB so I know the AMD"S run faster but how much faster could the FX-53 be then the 3.4

 

I had to make the same decision last winter (built a new pc), I decided to let the software developers have a few yrs to build some apps that would actually utilize the new Clawhammer (AMD 64).
Sooo, bang for buck I went with a AMD mobile CPU for 99.00 and been plugin away @2500 mhz since.

That 3.4 Intel sounds pretty awesome to me, but if your going to be saving up for a few months, things can change!

Heh, I guess my decision a yr ago was a lot easier than yours

 

my athlon64 3500+ socket 939 (same socket as the FX-53) runs faster than the p4 3.4 as it is.

the FX-55 is a step up from the new 4000+, but those are insanely expensive.

i've actually seen benchmarks comparing the FX-53 to the 3500+ and the 3500+ coming out on top...

in any case, Athlon64 is the fastest you can get right now.
