the older celerons are socket 478. Im not sure if Dell motherboards allow upgrades but if you find your motherboard model (Everest Home) then you can post it here and we'll find out if you can upgrade.

Anyways, it is 478, now I am gonna get a new motherboard, but can I use the dell memory in another pc?, or do I have to start from scratch.

Dell usually has very compatable memory but, be sure the new board will take the same memory, thats pretty slow memory for todays boards. There are some awful good deals going on now, by the time you buy a board/cpu/memory/ more than likely a new case, you might as well buy a pre-built and get it over with. ed

most motherboards wont fit in a Dell case. The best you can get for a 478 is (i think) a 3.2ghz p4.

I have an 8300. Dell told me I needed a specific chip to upgrade. Of course they couldn't find the chip when I called to order it. It was a T 3034. Same 478 pins. I still would like a 3.6 chip.
