hi, i have my cpu at 73C / 164F when its running windows, and 85C while running the BIOS menu
the fan speed es 2577RPM and the micro a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz HT
    is this normal? too high?
could it be altering the performance??
my computer has been going slow and my cpu benchmarks are always much lower than the normal
    thnks fo your help

Normal, no. Should you be using the machine at those temps? Answer is no. Turn the box off, and fix it. Also, are you running with the cover off, along with using in a room that does not have Air Conditioning?

with cover you mean the lateral panel of the tower? if it's that, yes
and im argentina, and we are in winter now... no air conditioning needed, although i have.
    thnks!

Those temps are very high and something to be concerned about I bet your system is slowing done because it will purposely slow to lower the CPU temp.

Okay lets start by turning the power and unplugging it from the back of the PC, removing the right side panel (RSP) and when you look in you should see a small fan mounted on the motherboard. Reach in and gently wiggle this, is it loose?? This you CPU Fan that sits atop a Heatsink. Is there much dust? Do you have any other Fans is so are they all working?

i didnt remove the rsp but i cleaned up the fan from the micro, and the heat controller... Other fans too were cleaned, and yes, i have 4 extra fans.
then i restarted the machine and temp rose to 95 C so i shut it down and took it to the technician... thnks for your help! i will post the results tomorrow when they give it back to me...

Four fans are unnecessary. You should only need the power supply fan, the CPU, Video card fans at the most. Adding more fans to the case may of been unecessary, and it is possible that instead of pulling air through the case, it was pushing air into the case, and not able to vent any.

okok, i will take your recommendation
they came with the vitsuba tower anyway, but i will turn them off and see what happens
    thnks!

This really depends on what you are doing. My pre-built system came with PSU and CPU but it has a "Prescott" CPU and because of the heat issues associated with this model of CPU another side fan was recommended by Intel with a funnel directing it onto the CPU as well as a rear extraction (as well as the PSU) and they certainly suggest a front inlet as well. So this is 3 extra recommended by the Manufacterer for everyday use of the Prescott. I must agree though that you should have a reasonable understanding of thermal management, air flow, positive case pressure, etc, when you install new fans otherwise they may be more counterproductive than effective. But four case fans why not if you know what you are doing and can handle the noise.

I forgot about the Prescot being a room heater. That thing should only be allowed in rooms that are kept 60f or cooler.

so now my problem doesn't have any solution... i called the technician and he told me he coultdnt find any problem with it except the 90C from the processor. He recommended me to call intel and ask about it, but i doubt they can help me.
On top of everything i think that i lost the box where the processor came so no guarantee :S...
I guess i will use this micro until it burns itself and then buy another :(
    thnks everyone

    GOOD NEWS!
i went to the technician's store and there i told him that probably i had not adjusted well the heat controller from the micro... he did it and voila! 41 ÂșC!
my cpu now is 300% faster and the only reason was the high temp!
My decision to clean was right but not the way i put it on the motherboard. If any of you has this problem, now you know the answer.
    thnks everyone!

    here's my new 3dmark score

    946 cpu better than 366 from before :) :) :)
