I've noticed that when some of my screensavers (Planesoft) are in operation the CPU temp of my desktop can rise up to 80c from the normal 53c and when the screensaver stops it reverts back to normal. This doesn't happen with the MS supplied screensavers. Is this a problem?
    Thanks

More details on your system would be helpful. Your CPU temp is obviously related to your Video Card temp but what you are explaining. Also important to consider is some of the ATI video cards over the last year had a poor driver design and would cause unnecessary heat on the CPU (even though it should've been the video card doing the work).

    - Update your video card drivers to the latest version.
    - How clean is your case and what airflow do your have?

I have a ATI mobility radeon HD 5870 card.
While playing graphics intensive games the computer freezes (sometimes a black or grey screen with vertical stripes - lots of buzzing sounds- probably from the game music freezing).
I updated the video card/os/sound card... and I am thinking the internal fan is not up to par.

Is there a way to adjust the fan speed ? I have read BIOS! but thats all i can find. How do I access BIOS? is there a selection for TURN UP FAN ?
    Thanks for the help.

Ideally this should be in it's own thread with it's own specific title.

Bold Eagle, I have a desktop with XP SP3 and my video card is Nvidia GeForce 8600GT. The temperature is normally around 50c-53c and all the screensavers I have except 2 from planesoft don't increase the temp at all. It's clear that this is something to do with those 2 screensavers but I just wondered why. Sorry for the delay in responding to your helpful response.
    Thanks

Without knowing the specific screen savers I would assume it has something to do with the 3D, your current Video Card and it's driver. There was a time when ATI made some terrible Video Drivers for the 48xx series and the CPU ended up doing a lot of the GPU work and was getting very hot. I can only speculate this is what is occurring.
