No. Its about ready to fry.

    How did you install it?

I didn't install it, a friend of mine built the PC for me. Could it be dust or dirt in the heatsink?

I agree, it's about to go south on ya! Did your friend use thermal paste when he installed the HSF?

dont kno if my friend used thermal paste but i took it apart today and the heatsink was blocked with dirt and dust gave it a clean and now its sitting at 51c is this ok what should i do?

Significant decrease in temp but did you pull the heatsink off and check the thermal paste?

Look at articsilver.com for thermal paste application, presence and or removal. How old is your sys?? Was there sys lag occurring??

You went to BIOS to measure temp thus did you restart to get to BIOS and thus the intial temp was actually higher than that stated! Try EVEREST from this site to monitor temp: COMPUTER > SENSOR, so you can assess your sys under diff. loads and establish some baseline info. i.e. idle > moderate > load refrencing temps, voltages, etc. From there more informed decisions can be made.

Did you check out the articsilver.com website. If you pulled of the heatsink you should be able to readily tell if you had thermal paste or not and whether it is dry (thus inefficient) and whether you should replace it. Follow insturctions carefully and only apply the specified amounts apparently too much can cause just as many problems as too little (advice from techs in comp shops!).

Hmm, if it is custom made I donno but computers normally come with a fan so they don't fry and auto-shutdown, that reminds me, do you all remember like 2-3 years ago Bill Gates made a virus that every time you started up your computer it would shut down in like 60sec?

ON TOPIC: well, I don't know but thermal paste could be the problem or mabe not. Try asking your friend or call the company that gave you the parts.

Yes while the HS fan does control heat and cooling to the CPU its the CPUs thermal throttleing that will shut the CPU down before the heat fries the die, not all CPUs especially older versions have thermal throttleing.

as for the Virus ( Sasser ) ... Bill Gates did not make, write or supply it

A bit more info on your sys specs would have been helpful but here are some technical guides from AMD on:

    AMD Thermal, Mechanical, and Chassis Cooling Design Guide;

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/23794.pdf

Thermal Interface Material Comparison: Thermal Pads vs. Thermal Grease

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/26951.pdf

Other links of interest from the AMD site:

    http://search.amd.com/query.html?qt...,+temperature+|+athlon+3000+temperatures&rq=1

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ComputingSolutions/0,,30_288_1278_4892^2989,00.html

These are the technical aspects you need to review from the AMD site, although it may be a bit dry and or boring it seems it would be of benefit to you seeming this is a homebuilt sys. If I had more sys specs I could find your critical temperature threshold!

You should make further inspection in your BIOS and note whether the "Warning Temperature" is operational and with more specs from you can find what it critical temp it should be set at!

You decreased your sys by 35C with a simple clean but are still hitting 51C. Now I dont think AMD are the same as Intel Prescotts' and renown as a hot chip. I believe you still have issues to resolve here and need to conduct more research or at least provide greater sys specs so advice can be provided!!

Well I heard he tried to upgrade windows update or something and accidently created a virus which made your computer shut down in like 1minute.
THIS WAS created by Bill Gates and it is a fact, ask anyone.

Take this as a friendly warning. Spreading nonsense around here doesn't fly.

I'll close this thread, seeing how you aren't adding anything useful (or true) to it.
