CPU temps false reading?

I started to put this in the Cooling section, but I think it is more hardware related. On my Q6600 on a Gigabyte GA-P35 board, Core Temp is showing my temps as 80 70 77 70 Celcius, at full load. I find that hard to believe as the ambient temp is 21C. All fans are running, the heatsink is warm to the touch, but not anywhere near 70C! I did double check the mounting of the heatsink, it is good.

A quick look at the Gigabyte website shows this seems to be a BIOS problem. They suggest a beta BIOS... I think I will wait. Wouldn't a CPU at those temps be acting crazy?

Yeah, those temps seem a bit high to say the least. Maybe try a different temp app (PCWizard has a temp monitor, not sure if it watches all 4 cores tho') and see it what it says. Your BIOS should have a hardware monitor or PC health type of thing too... if Gigabyte says it's known problem, then the temps are probably wrong, and you're probably wise to avoid the beta BIOS and to wait until a stable version is released.

PC Wizard is giving the sametemps, a few degrees cooler. Odd. Computer is running fine, and cranking out some folding points.

But the heatsink is not very warm. The northbridge is hotter.
