Firstly I apologize if this question has already been answered, but the search function was not working. I was getting some double header error.

Anyway, the issue I have is in the task manager. When you go to View -> Select Columns and then check the CPU Time check box, that column comes up and you can see how much time the cpu is used up by each process in total. It is usually a way to tell how long a machine has been up by looking at this column next to the System Idle process. Recently I have come across some of these timers incrementing in 2 second intervals. The only machines I have checked have been Server 2003 and XP. Any ideas on this one? The reason I noticed is because the server was randomly rebooting throughout the day and we were trying to determine how long it was staying up.

Thanks in advance for your ideas,

    Chad

If I have your question correct some of the timers go up in muliples of 2? ok... if you go back to task manager > view > and choose update speed its set to normal = 2 sec interval if you choose high = 1 second interval and low = 4 sec interval.

hope this is what you were after?

    :)

No actually. If I set that to high it goes up in 1 sec increments, but every 1/2 second. Normal goes up in 2 Second increments, but every 1 sec.

Wow that is weird... just pulled up TM again and put a timer next to it just to check and the real time was near as dammit to the CPU timings,

I wonder and just thinking out aloud... if as this is CPU time.. are you running a P4 HT ... simulates 2 cpus which if my blatent guess is right would double the timings of the task manager????

Ok I just checked the machine I am on again, and on normal it is going up in increments from 2 to 4, not just 2 anymore. What the heck is going on here?

ok now it is going just in 4 second intervals every realtime second. This is stressing me out, because I hate it when I can't figure something out.

    Please assist,

    Chad

TBH.. I've not got a clue, couldnt recreate what your seeing on 4 XP machines and one 2003 Server.

Post the specs of the machines and if and when I have a meeting with our works IT bods I will pose the question ( unless somone else chimes in with a viable answer ) should be next week as we should be moving office and a server and 6 PCs need moving/setting up AGAIN!
