cpu upgrade

At the moment the wife has a dell dimension 4300 1.6ghz machine, I have been searching the net and used aida32 and believe her motherboard is a socket 478, I have just been given a 2.7 celeron - on the back is the words
sl77, after a bit searching I now think that this is will fit on her motherboard.

I would like to swap these, however I have never done this before and am not sure waht to expect - will the motherboard software need upgrading as well..

Can anyone point me in the right direction n how to go about this.

No. You will not have to make any software changes. Installing a CPU is actually fairly simple if you're careful and observant. It goes without saying, but be sure to unplug the power cord from the PC before opening the case. You'd be surprised how many PC's I've seen get fried because the owner left it plugged in while swapping RAM or a video card....

Had a bit of a panic with some pins bent on the cpu, but after some careful straightning all seems well..
