CPU Usage Question

I wasn't sure where to post this, so please move it if it is in the wrong forum. Usually my hard drive is quiet, but lately is whirring along, so I investigated Task Manager to see what might be causing the activity. I examined all the Processes carefully and the CPU Usage. Over time, what I will describe is using 10-40% CPU Usage and goes as high as 50-70% usage briefly at times. The items that are creating this usage are:

SearchFilterH...

Search Indexe...

Search Protoc...

They are in 'SYSTEM' and 'Microsoft'

Can you tell me what may be going on, why these processes are active, and what I can do to correct the situation. Also giving me the full names of the processes listed would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

If your Hard drive is starting to make noises, it might be on the way out. They do that. You should make sure you have any important stuff backed up elsewhere, in case it dies.
Are you sure it's not just a fan you are hearing? They can get noisy too. A noisy fan will have fairly constant noise (unless the fan speed is changing with temperature, which some do). A noisy hard drive will make noise in short bursts like a dying blow fly on its back.
I don't know what those processes are - what OS do you have running?
That's reasonable CPU usage. I don't think you have a problem there.

 

I solved the problem. I just ended the processes in the Services section and the CPU level has dropped to practically nothing(the way it was), and my hard drive is not making any of the noise I described.

They will all start again at next boot. They are launched by the indexing service which speeds up your searches. You can turn indexing off but future searches might take rather a long time.
