    Hi there :)

I have tried searching all over the net and I can find anything to help me, although I have seen similar problems, all the stuff ive tried hasnt worked, so now I turn to you guys :D

    http://www.iupload.net/102004/CPUBUMP.jpg

The last couple of spikes are what we are looking at. These happen CONSTANTLY. Every couple of seconds or so. Ive tried everything, ALL my drivers are updated (I think...) and ive updated the BIOS.

Ive reformatted my computer several times over a course of a couple months since this has started, but to no avail. The computer never used to do this until I reformatted because of spyware related problems a while ago.

    Here are my specs:

    http://www.iupload.net/102004/Specs.bmp

That is what comes off my hardware monitor, and now I am confused again because it says my BIOS is from 2002...hmm.

My computer never did this for around the first year I owned it, now the spikes are becoming very annoying, especially while listening to music or when gaming and having it constantly 'skip'.

Im not sure whether it is my HD, My CPU, or my RAM acting up, but can anyone help me or perhaps point me in the right direction?

    PLEASE help :)

*edit* When I updated my BIOS, it said (at the end) Error : Write proctection. Maybe it didnt update correctly? :p

Ok, Ive got the Hardware Monitor reading my BIOS as the updated version, although at the end it still said something about the Flash ROM being write protected.

Looks to me like you've been hijacked. Download and run Spybot and/or Ad Aware both available this site.

look at the proccess table and see which application is using the most cpu at the times of the spikes

Thanks for the help, but I already said that there seems to be no consistencys between the spikes and processes.

Sorry if you think im being a dick, but my computer has been really malfunctioning and is making me cranky. Especially because I just moved out and have nothing else to do when im not working (right now anyway).

Ok :) I found out that I have a hardware interupt at the time of the spikes...This is good, making progress :)

*edit* ok it is definetly hardware intrerupts, does anyone know of a tool that finds what is being interupted, and by what?

    Thanks

i guess the obvious would be to try and remember what hardware you installed and disable it somehow ... though make sure you do not need or want the hardware, of course

    edit ...

you might try right clicking the interupt line in process explorer and clicking properties ... that might tell you ... i just tried it but no interupts are happening on my computer

Ok, I figured out the problem.

The Primary IDE is interrupting Ultra DMA channel. I had 2 DMA channels installed, and now I have managed to get rid of one, but I am still getting an error on the primary IDE, help?

The DMA channel is now getting these errors:

    Input/Output Range 01F0 - 01F7 not available.
    Interrupt Request 14 not available.

Also, I did a HD check, and it seems that 13h is interuppting 2 different thinks, im assuming these are them. Any help?

lol.. im lost with those IRQ conflicts i just set everything to auto in the BIOS ... you might try setting fail safe defaults or resetting the CMOS your manuel should tell you how to do that ... there's also BIOS guides floating around here if you care to do a search

Just a another thought. Have you got back to your ISP (ipaska) and negotiated the problem with them. Because that was apparently the start of the problem. I assumed that ipaska was a highjacker but I now see that they are a ISP - presumably yours? You don't say you have gone down that track. It could be just a glitch between you and the ISP which is causing the problem.
    Lets know please

    I sent this to Valve.

Maybe someone here can help me out?

er LONG hours screwing with my computer, I think I have finally zeroed in on the problem. What has been happening is that I am getting CPU spikes while doing anything on my computer. I have reformatted in the range of 4 times, stayed up all night playing with the Device manager, and scoured the net.

It seems that STEAM was the cause of the problem. As I am installing step by step I have realized that my computer only spikes while steam is running.

    Here is a picture: http://www.iupload.net/102004/SPIKES1.JPG

    Hopefully that works.

Anyway, ANYTHING would be helpful, im very computer adept, so you dont have to treat me like an idiot. Thanks.

What graphics card do you have? Do you have a PCI sound card? Have you tried moving PCI cards to other slots?

Also, take a look here : System properties, device manager, look at the properties of your IDE controller (I'll presume you use IDE since you're using UDMA) check the channels and make sure DMA is turned off if there is no device. My drivers do that automatically, but I don't know about yours.
