Recently I've noticed how my CPU usage climbs to 18 percent or so whenever I simply move my mouse or around 16 percent periodically when it's simply idle. I doubt this is normal so I wanted to know, i've seen it come up before but can't for the life of me find the threads about it, if you can help me. Iscanned for trojans online and with installed software but no good.

Just wanted some confirmation of whether the situation is normal and if not what can I do to weed out the problem.

Yeah, mouse movement makes my CPU usage jump too, and random spikes are normal even when nothing appears to be happening.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

dsbnh, there is a little ambiguity in your post. Are you asking whether an idle usage of 16% is normal? or whether the increase to 18 % by moving the mouse is normal?

If the first, have you tried this: http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25835

Sorry for not being clear, I was sort of asking both really but the idle bit is one I've never witnessed myself (the amount in particular) so I wondered about that one more, the mouse I just didn't know about. Thanks for the link, right now I am running a Power User Setup I configured from this page: http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
