Cpu usage

I don't know if this is the place to ask this but I've noticed when I play some games my cpu runs at 100%, even with games that have a recommended spec that's much lower than my pc's. I was told it could be my virtual memory but I'm not sure what to do with it, It was set at Initial 768 and Maximum 1600 so I set the Initial to 1000 and left the Maximum at 1600 but it doesn't seem to have helped. Any ideas?

Firstly, I'd set the virtual memory to auto. detect as user defined it rarely correct and changes for different software.
Also, what other programs do you have running whilst gaming? Folding software can take up a lot of cpu usage so if you have that installed, I'd turn down it's work rate whilst gaming.

 

3d games are designed to use 100% cpu useage. Totally normal. Cpu speed/ram/wahtever have nothing to do with it. Imagine how crappy games will run if your cpu is sitting around idle, picking its virtual butt.

 

How do I set the virtual memory to auto? Is It by checking the "System managed size" box? When I'm gaming I don't usually have any programs running and most of the games I play are 3D (Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines) and don't use much more than 40% cpu.

Dont use much more than 40% of the cpu? I don't buy that at all.

I mean...maybe when you minimize it, because some games become background tasks at that point.

 

It definately runs at 40 to 50% with games like Doom3,Vampire and other big games so what would make it run at 100% with small games like Alien vs Predator 2 and Juiced. I got told it could be games taking advantage of hyper threading but I've no Idea what that is, could anyone explain this?
