    hi guys,

when ever i play a movie from my hard disk i get a cracking sound when there are loud noises in the movies. when it is a quiet scene it doesnt do it. it usually happens when i watch movies that contain an ac3 sound.

do you think it could be a driver issue?

please guys if u can help me.

    cheers.

Well, drivers are a good place to start! It would be simple enough to eliminate drivers as the cause. First thing I would try is reinstalling them. Here's how:

    1. Right-click 'My Computer'
    2. Select 'Manage'
    3. On the 'Computer Management' window, click 'Device Manager'
    4. Expand 'Sound, video and game controllers'
    5. For every item you can, right-click and select 'Uninstall'
    6. Restart your computer.

When Windows loads back up, it will reinstall the drivers from a copy it keeps in cache. Hopefully, this resolves the problem, but if not, I would then try UPDATING the drivers with the latest from the manufacturer of your sound card. I would include a link, but you haven't specified the make and model.
